About CBT

The principles of cognitive behavioural therapy

What is CBT and how can it help?

Cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. Most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, CBT can be useful for other mental and physical health problems, helping you tackle them in a more positive and decisive way.

CBT aims to help you crack the vicious cycle of negative thoughts and feelings by breaking down seemingly overwhelming problems into smaller parts, lessening their impact and improving the way you feel.

Reviewing current problems rather than focusing on your past, cognitive behavioural therapy is shown to be an effective way of treating a number of different mental health conditions.

CBT is especially helpful to treat and help you manage anxiety

Anxiety can come in various different forms, diagnoses and is different for every individual.  We can help you understand how your anxiety works, how it keeps going and help you start to take control of your life again.

We have expertise in working with young people age 14-25

If you would us like to work with your children please to contact us, and we can see you all and discuss how we may be able to help.

We also have colleagues who work with younger people, if that is of interest, do let us know and we can put you in touch.

In addition to depression or anxiety disorders, CBT can also help people with:

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder OCD
  • Panic disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD
  • Phobias
  • Eating disorders including anorexia and bulimia
  • Sleep problems such as insomnia
  • Alcohol misuse and related problems

If you think you have a problem that may benefit from treatment please get in touch to meet one of our therapists for an initial £10 consultation in central Brighton.

We specialise in treating Insomnia with CBT.

Insomnia on its own not only affects many people, it can also cause mental health difficultes if left untreated.  CBT-i is an adapted form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy designed specifically to treat insomnia and other sleep difficulties.

If you would like to see one of us to discuss this further, do contact us and we can run through how this specialist and effective treatment works.  If you would like to read about this approach and how you may well be able to work through this with the best self help book, do have a look at it here.
